GEORGE SOROS FIGHTING ‘ISLAMOPHOBIA’ BY FUNDING POLITICAL ISLAM. Founder and Chair, Soros Fund Management and the Open Society Foundations George Soros attends 2016 Concordia Summit - Day 2 at Grand Hyatt New York on September 20, 2016 in New York City / Getty.

On his weblog, Dutch investigative journalist Carel Brendel yesterday published an article on the first beneficiary of a subsidy, given out by the Democracy and Media Foundation (SDM). Brendel aimed some criticism at the subsidy earlier, writing that while SDM announced it, it is really paid for by George Soros’ Open Society Foundation (OSF) and led by Maartje Eigeman, who worked for OSF. Brendel also writes that the subsidy is really another attempt by the OSF to influence Dutch elections: the subsidies, ostensibly to fight discrimination of Muslims, offered a ‘fast-track procedure’ for those that were focused on the elections. From this, Brendel concludes that:

“projects that are not affected by election issues have much less chance of getting money, because the subsidies will already be partially drained in order to finance political activities against the PVV and Geert Wilders, or against other parties and politicians that are not to the taste of OSF and SDM.“

With the first benefactor now known, it seems Brendel’s prediction was right. The winner is the Foundation Platform of Islamic Organisations Rijnmond (SPIOR). They will organise a National Islam debate in the Netherlands’ largest mosque, the Essalam Mosque in Rotterdam, which has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Wilders has been invited, but has declined. As he has done before, declining to debate with members of the Dutch department (FION) of the Muslim Brotherhood in Europe (FIOE).

Brendel writes, that this affair seems to confirm his scepticism concerning the subsidies handed out by SDM and OSF.

“There is no objection to counteracting, indiscriminately, racism and discrimination. But I do object to this concrete case of OSF support of organisations that shout ‘islamophobia!’ and made presenting themselves as victims the cornerstone of their ideology and propaganda.”

Partly thanks to the financial backing of the OSF, the Muslim Brotherhood is able to sell its story in Brussels. OSF-subsidies, together with subsidies from the Council of Europe and the European Union, went to the Forum Of European Muslim Youth And Student Organisations (FEMYSO), the Collective Against Islamophobic in France (CCIF) and the European Network Against Racism (ENAR). According to Brendel, the ENAR, although purporting to be a larger network of anti-racism organisations, has an Islamic contingent controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood through FEMYSO and related women’s movement European Forum of Muslim Women (EFOMW).

As an aside, FEMYSO and the CCIF work together on:

“the Islamophobia Monitoring and Action Network – a project launched by FEMYSO in cooperation with a French NGO, CCIF, which, for the first time ever, builds a network of organisations working to combat Islamophobia across Europe. This project has trained NGOs across 6 countries, provided them with professional new tools to help support victims of Islamophobia and developed a unique, professional online system for monitoring, measuring, and reporting Islamophobia across Europe.”

The project’s website meanwhile, fails to define the term Islamophobia in French (at time of writing, it redirected to an error page) and meanders towards a definition in atrocious English that reads:

“So, what ‘islamophobia’ actually means? Islamophobia is any act of discrimination or act of violence, verbal or physical, concerning individuals (or institutions) due to their supposed membership to Islam. Unlike a wrong common idea, islamophobia is not a ‘derivative’ of anti-Arabs or anti-Maghreb racism. Indeed, it aims any kind of population and is specifically turned to supposed Muslim people. Victims can be Black, Asian, White, Arab etc. They are all victims of the same physical or symbolic violence. Islamophobia unfortunately occurs everywhere in Europe.”

This is the kind of initiative that gets funded by the Council of Europe, the European Union, Human Appeal and OSF, yet is unable after two years of operation to come up with a proper definition of what it is researching.. Vincent van den Born
